I ♥ Hackintosh Original Poster 1 point 2 years ago. No way did I want to buy a high end iMac, and the Mac Mini just didn't seem like it had the horsepower. Seeing some of the reviews, it looks like XCode build times for even the new Mac.

Abstract

Over the last seven years, the CTSRD Project at SRI International and the University of Cambridge has been performing intensive hardware-software co-design to redesign core computer architecture around improved security. This talk will introduce Capability Hardware Enhanced RISC Instructions (CHERI), which extend a conventional RISC processor architecture with support for capabilities — a long-discussed but rarely deployed security approach focused on efficiently implementing the Principle of Least Privilege. CHERI is a hybrid capability architecture, in that it blends these historic ideas with contemporary hardware and software design, yielding vastly improved security with strong software compatibility yet acceptable performance overhead for fine-grained memory protection and mitigation — and orders-of-magnitude performance improvement for compartmentalised software designs. These techniques directly support vulnerability mitigation for the C and C++ programming languages, interfering with exploit techniques from buffer overflows to ROP and JOP, as well as protecting against future unknown attack techniques via scalable application-level privilege reduction. Prototyped via hardware-software co-design, and evaluated on FPGA with support from DARPA, the CHERI processor prototype is able to run adapted versions of the FreeBSD operating system (CheriBSD) and open-source application stack, and is targeted by an extended version of the Clang/LLVM compiler. This talk introduces the CHERI architecture and potential applications, and will also describe current research directions.

Bio

Dr Robert N. M. Watson is a University Senior Lecturer (Associate Professor) at the University of Cambridge Computer Laboratory, where he works across the areas of security, operating systems, and computer architecture. As Principal Investigator of the CTSRD project, he led work on the CHERI architecture from the “ISA up”, designing the hardware-software security model, and has led the CHERI software development team working on OS support, compiler support, and applications. He also has research interests in network-stack design, OS tracing and profiling tools, and capability-based operating systems including the Capsicum security model now deployed in FreeBSD. In prior industrial research, he developed the MAC Framework employed for OS kernel access-control extensibility and sandboxing in FreeBSD, Mac OS X, iOS, and Junos. He is an author of the Design and Implementation of the FreeBSD Operating System (Second Edition).

In this post, we'll be seeing the top 6 best themes for Linux Mint's Cinnamon desktop environment, which will make your desktop look absolutely spectacular. These themes can be applied on other distros running Cinnamon desktop environment too.

While Linux Mint looks good by default, its Cinnamon desktop has some amazing themes available that make the desktop look downright stunning. Changing the theme enables you to spice things up and enjoy a refreshed Linux mint experience. I've picked the best out of best for you, these themes have very polished designs, gorgeous color schemes and are created to impress on first look.

6. Canta GTK theme

Canta makes your Linux Mint colorful. This is more than colorful. Vivid. Most of us have RGB on our desktops, I have red lights and this theme absolutely goes with it makes my computer stand out.

This looks great on laptops too. Especially when you're outdoors. This setup is an attention magnet. In your classroom, office, this will attract and make every other computer screen look too plain.

I have applied a neon rave wallpaper but you can go with something very discreet and this theme will still look good.

You can install Canta theme with this commands

Canta theme is available in many variants. It comes with various color options and in light and dark themes as well. You can do your own thing. Get creative here guys.

5. Adapta GTK Theme

The Hackerman Mac Os X

Next up, we're going for a super classy, polished look with Adapta theme. This theme makes your Linux Mint look very sophisticated. You know when you look at somethings and can immediately tell that particular thing is very expensive just by the texture, quality and other subtle things. Adapta theme has the same effect on Linux Mint. Nothing flashy here. But it looks premium.

It has 3 variants and I really liked the light one. Make sure you experiment with the other two.

Dark themes are trending now and Adpata offers one of the best looking dark themes.

Adpata is extremely easy to install. Just open themes from the menu and you can install Adapta from the add/remove tab.

That's it. You can now head back and apply it.

I'm using Numix circle icons. You can download them by running this commands

As I said earlier, play around with the variants of Adapta. The dark theme especially is very elegant.

Desktop wallpaper is an essential part of your desktop and it's crucial that you match the theme, icons and the wallpaper. I'm mostly picking wallpapers from the preinstalled package, but you can go ahead get more wallpapers from the internet if you want. It's all in the eyes of the beholder. Let your creative juices flow.

4.Numix

Numix is a big name in the field of themes and icon packs. It produces high-quality visual assets. The theme itself is simple but has style. Not everybody can rock Canta, on their computers, the first theme that we saw. Some people need something more subtle, yet elegant.

Mac

Numix Daily has a profound feel to it. it is very clean and comes with solid colors. There are no gradients, multiple shades and stuff here. The desktop looks very sophisticated with icons looking on spot. The desktop looks very sharp. The closest metaphor I can draw here is James Bond wearing a suit.

Numix is great for professionals, students. The colors look nice here, but they are not too punchy. This is what I personally use on my work computer, so I have mad love for Numix.

For installation, I already gave the commands you need to run in the previous section. Run them one by one. Once that is done, open themes and apply Numix Daily. You can go with either circle or square icons. I'm picking circle.

In the desktop section, choose mint-y-red. For wallpaper, pretty much anything goes here because of the simple, dark color of the bottom panel. I would recommend something that doesn't have too many colors. Something majestic.

3. Serena

With Serena, you get one of the best-looking Linux Mint setups ever. I really fell in love with Serena. It brings together the best of many UI design styles.

The Hackerman Mac Os Catalina

The desktop is not too funky, but the touch is definitely here. It's not too formal nor too casual. The colors are punchy here, but they are used beautifully.

As soon as I applied this theme, I strongly felt that I should get a little plant for my computer table. So if You already have a plant or plan to get one, this theme right here is going t make the whole thing look fantastic. Without the plant too, it looks really good here.

The dark and green colors are deep. The radius, the spacing it's all done really nicely. In a time when material design is trending, this is a refreshing look.

Serena can be downloaded directly from the add/remove tab in the themes application. Serena is just a desktop theme, so for the other entries in the themes application, you need to apply some other ones. I'll pick Numix circle icons and some pre-installed theme here, but you can mix and match.

The base color of Serena is deep black so it'll match with many other themes. I'm using a theme called Vimix here, which I'll talk about in a few minutes. I'll go with the wallpaper that has some green in it. To complement the wallpaper and the plant that I'll get.

Serena makes both laptops and desktops look absolutely gorgeous. I'm really lovin' the look here.

2. Arc theme.

Arc is a popular choice for theming on Linux, especially on GNOME desktop. And it looks really good on Cinnamon desktop too. The layout, the design, the color scheme, it's all very high quality.

The interface is very clean with contrasting colors. The colors here are chosen to be subtle. The computer does not pull your attention away from what you're doing. You know Candy Crush, the bright colors used there, attract you and keep you hooked to the game. Bright colors are shown to pull our attention to them. By utilizing the subtler shades of colors, Arc theme facilitates a productivity-oriented desktop. And these colors look very good. They add a very mature, professional vibe to the computer.

I would recommend this theme for work computers.

To install this theme, open a terminal and run

Then head to the themes application and change it. Arc is available in 3 variants, all of which are really good. So make sure you play with them.

As far as the desktop wallpaper is concerned, pretty much anything goes here. Try to pick something that has the theme colors or complementary colors in it.

I highly recommend Arc if you want your desktop to look professional and classy.

1. Vimix

Vimix is one of the most impressive looking themes for Cinnamon Vimix is a flat, material style theme created according to the very high standards that Google has set for its Android operating system. So it has a very superior design that is contemporary to what is considered fantastic today.

This is definitely made for 2020. Vimix particularly looks great on laptops. The colorful window controls, sharp edges and a ton of variants that offer handpicked accent colors, all these make Vimix a must-have theme for customization enthusiasts.

To download Vimix, run the commands

Then you can try out the many variants you get, but I suggest you go with the dark theme. Vimix, hands down, provides one of the best looking dark themes for Linux Mint. This is exactly what you need to get if you want a superb looking dark themed Linux Mint. Again, the dark theme is available in many accent colors. So you can customize your desktop to be truly unique.

I'm using numix square icons here but you can try others too, also I 'm using a preinstalled wallpaper here. You can go ahead and get something from the internet that matches the accent colors you've chosen.

All in all, Vimix is a great theme that offers a modern desktop with a choice of many vibrant variants.

Well, that's it for today.
